#1 - Norton Antivirus

Norton Antivirus is a well-known anti-virus which protects your computers from trojans, spyware, worms and other threats. A sub-division of Symantec, Norton specializes in computer and internet safety, keeping your identity and personal information safe from hackers. There is a constant stream of updates with notifications, meaning that you always have the newest version ready. This software can be bought at $39.99 USD from the online store, and lasts a year. This price is well worth your money, as the software is very friendly yet strong, and can be used by almost anyone.

  • Updates automatically and quickly.
  • Is very user-friendly, simple to use.
  • Has a free 24 hour support team.
  • Solid protection from trojans, worms, viruses, spyware, etc.
  • Does not slow down your computer significantly, unlike some other anti-viruses.
  • Has a recovery option, in case your computer becomes infected.

  • Is sometimes too overprotective, many programs and games may have troubles installing. However this can easily be overlooked by switching some of the options off temporarily.
  • Some users complain that it does not uninstall completely, meaning that at the end of the yearly subscription you will stop getting updates.

Overall, Norton Antivirus is a very solid and efficient protection software, and is at the top of the anti-virus ladder.

#2 - Webroot Antivirus

Webroot Antivirus is another competitor in the antivirus market, specializing in Spyware protection. This anti-virus has 3 packages, each one for a different type of person. The basic $19.95 version is just a Spyware sweeper, and is recommended for people who already have an antivirus and want further protection. The standard package is $29.95, giving all the necessities, such as virus blocking, attachment scanning and many more. This is recommended for a casual user, who mainly emails and browses the internet. Then there is the expensive $79.95 one, which offers an almost complete protection for those paranoid or important users, making this version built for businessmen.

  • A lot of packages choices, meaning that you can find the one that best suits you.
  • Attractive and aesthetically pleasing interface.
  • Automatic virus scanning.
  • 30 day money back guarantee.

  • Poor customer service
  • There is no back-up option.
  • Some scans may slow your computer's performance down.

Webroot is an excellent spyware remover, but in general protection, Norton trumps this software. However, it received largely positive reviews from sites such as TechRadar and TopTenReviews, and was placed next to other excellent anti-virus softwares such as Norton and McAfee.

I have had Web Roon on windows 8 for two days, now.  It's easy to install, very fast.  Scan time about 2.5 minutes.  Don't know yet about what it blocks.  We'll see.
